Children In Film
The Challenge

Children in Film wanted a new, dual-purpose website designed to educate parents of child actors about the realities of the entertainment industry and to serve as a networking tool for talented minors to connect with qualified and reputable industry professionals. The website had to provide easy access to important industry employment information such as the California Child Labor Law while also creating a secure online environment for child actors and their parents to build social networks in the entertainment community. In doing this, the Children in Film website needed to portray a healthy and positive view of the child acting business that emphasized education and the building of strong entertainment community social connections.

Ratings & Recommendations

The Web Advanced design and development team initiated the website reconstruction process by engaging Children in Film staff members in collaborative discussions to gather information and to establish functional specifications as they related to the organization’s goals of providing useful industry educational information and building a robust online community.

"We owe the success of our site to Web Advanced. They’ve been committed to helping our site excel since day one and they approach each aspect of the site construction with enthusiasm. When we succeed, they get excited – true evidence of a team that is in it for the long haul."
- Toni Casala, President at Children in Film

Web Advanced designers created an intuitive, functional and inviting website that allowed parents and child actors to easily search for and obtain information relating to the Child Labor laws and educational standards associated with the entertainment industry. The website also emphasized success stories, responsible parenting, responsible producing and money management techniques to create the positive online atmosphere needed to build a well-informed online community of parents and child actors.

Much of the Web Advanced design team’s energy went into creating professional networking capabilities for child actors and their parents. Flash-driven case studies highlighting successful child actors, actor and professional profiles, interactive forums and online photo contests are features that have promoted the supportive nature of the website’s social networking goals. These tools, along with other features such as custom messaging and ratings modules, have helped make the Children in Film website the premier online networking resource for child actors and their parents in the United States.

The Result

Successfully re-launched in January 2008, the newly designed Children in Film website boasted the largest online network for child actors in the United States. Utilizing the latest web technologies such as Flash 9, IIS 5.0, ASP.NET, SQL Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and AJAX, the Children in Film website is well-equipped to become one of the leading players in today’s entertainment industry.
